10 Best Shortcut and Hotkey Tips for Your Windows PC

The very essence of PC productivity is the keyboard shortcuts and the hotkeys. Those who are new to Windows PC will generally search for the proper buttons to click; the seasoned pros will go through their work in ease with the help of shortcuts and hotkey combos that does their work in seconds. Every PC user is aware of some basic shortcuts but many of us tend to forget the hotkey combos and we might not even know that there are more than 20 shortcuts possible on a Windows PC. However, we will focus on the 10 best shortcut and hotkey combos which are functional on any Windows PC.
1)  Windows + T
We all know that Windows + number would launch pinned application in the Taskbar but do you know that there is a fast way to scroll through them if the apps are already open? Press Windows + T and the first
open apps in the Taskbar will get highlighted. If you press the combo again you will move onto the next application. When you scroll through them you will get a Preview box which will help you to choose the app. Once you get the app you need, hit Enter and it will come to the foreground. However, this shortcut only works with open apps.
2) Windows + 1, 2, 3 etc
Windows 7 has come up with a brand new feature that allows you to access the apps very easily by pinning them to the Taskbar. But an even quicker method is to use the keyboard shortcut. Press Windows + 1 and it will open the first pinned app, Windows + 2 opens the second app and so on.
3) Change Desktop Resolution
There are many of us who change screen resolution fairly regularly. For them, there is a tool called Hotkey Resolution Changer which will make your work a lot easier. You can create keyboard shortcuts for the commonly used resolutions. For this you need to download the HRC (Hotkey resolution Changer) and run HRC.exe in the folder. Double click on the tray icon as soon as it starts. The HRC will have two entries with the default resolution, color depth and refresh rate. You can add a keyboard shortcut by clicking on the change button. Choose a keyboard shortcut and click on Set. Now in the second entry choose the resolution and other attributes and assign a keyboard shortcut to this resolution as well.
4) Windows + Shift + Left/Right Arrow
This is useful when you are using dual monitors to maximize your screen. When you are hitting Windows + Shift along with the Left or Right arrow, the window will toggle between the two screens. If you are using only one monitor, then this command will dock the window to the side of the screen.
5) Windows + Spacebar
There are many instances when drop a file on our desktop and in course of our work, we need to access it. Our natural inclination would be to minimize all our windows to access the desktop. But a much easier alternative is to press the Windows + Spacebar. You can simply see through the windows which has now become transparent after hitting the key combo. To stop it, simply depress the keys.
6) Windows + M
Windows + M is a great way to minimize all windows to the Taskbar. This is a great way to hide what you have been working on. If you want the Windows back all over again, then just press Windows + Shift + M. Each and every running window will pop up once again.
7) Shift + CTRL + N
Creating new folders has just become an easy task for everyone. Just hit Shift +Ctrl + N in any folder to create a new folder right at the spot. The new folder will be highlighted with the name ‘New Folder’ but you can definitely rename it. You can type in your own name and hit Enter.
8) Alt +F6
If multiple windows are open with a given app then this shortcut will let you switch between them. You need not click around in search of the right window.
9) Shift + Delete
Whenever we delete stuff in Windows, it goes to the Recycle Bin. But there is a way to bypass the Recycle Bin completely by pressing Shift + Delete. But the disadvantage is that the deleted file cannot be restored easily if you want it back later.
10) Windows Logo + L
This is a very handy shortcut for people who want to keep their work safe from the prying eyes. This shortcut will lock the PC instantly if you are walking away from the screen for a while.
